Another new keyword in 1st place on Google UK last month.. I love it when a plan comes together!

There is a growing number of people who believe that SEO is a con – this isn’t helped by the fact that there are a lot of cowboys out there, all promising you the world and usually it comes either via cold call tele-campaigns or, increasingly, spam (personally these have overtaken pills, porn and casino’s in my inbox).

But SEO isn’t just someone (or an agency) that you employ to do their own thing somewhere in an office, that you don’t really understand; it’s a core part of your strategy, working to be meet your objectives. It should be ingrained in your activity and aims to boost the online channel (and since the online channel is now available everywhere – every channel should see an effect as a result). It needs to be taken into account at every step, planning and running your online services (web design, functionality, content, UI) and your online and offline marketing campaigns.

Yes, there’s a good argument to say that if your marketing department is doing its job properly in ‘traditional’ activities (whatever that is nowadays!), then you will see your search engine positions rise naturally, and it would be correct. But design and execute your strategies with SEO in mind, that is driving traffic and links to your site, then your SERP’s and traffic will grow faster.
