Solved: Batch convert PDF to PPT & DOC files in Acrobat X Pro

This guide will help you to setup an Acrobat X action to easily batch convert PDFs in a folder.

Once configured, you can run the action by simply selecting it from within Adobe X Pro. The action batch converts PDF files in to office PPTX or DOCX format files. Once you have this action configured, running the action on subsequent occasions is a piece of cake and a huge time saver!

  1. Open Acrobat Pro and from the ‘Edit’ menu select ‘Manage Tools’
  2. Scroll to the bottom and click the ‘Action Wizard’ icon
  3. Select ‘New Action’  from the Action Wizard menu bar near the top.
  4. From the right hand side panel ‘action steps to show’, click the folder icon. Now select the folder that contains the PDFs that you want to batch covert and confirm your selection. –Tip: create a folder to use as a batch process ‘drop box’ so that you don’t have to keep changing the action to select a different folder. Just drop the PDFs you need to batch convert into this folder from now on.
  5. Select ‘Save’ from the left hand ‘Choose tools to add:’ menu to expand the list of options. Select ‘Save’ from this list of options.
  6. Click the arrow in the middle of the ‘Create New Action’ box to move ‘Save’ over to the right hand side ‘Action Steps to show’ area.
  7. Click specify settings underneath your save menu action step. This will open the ‘Output Options’ dialogue box.
  8. Towards the bottom of this box select the radio button ‘Export File(s) to Alternate Format
  9. Then choose your desired format form the drop down below.
  10. Click ‘OK’
  11. Click Save, give your action a name of ‘Export to PPTX’ (or as appropriate) and then click save again.

It should look a little like this:

Now, to run the process:

  1. Place PDF files in to the batch process ‘drop box’ folder that you selected in step 4 above.
  2. In Acrobat X Pro open the action menu by following steps 1 to 3 above.
  3. In the right hand side ‘Actions List’ menu you should now have an ‘Export to PPTX’ action at the bottom – click it:
  4. Now, in your action menu, you should see under ‘Files to be processed:’ a list of the files that are in your batch process ‘drop box’ folder
  5. Click Start to batch convert!
