May elections: Moreton-in-Marsh Town Council

I am standing as an independent candidate for election to the Town Council in the May elections. Having spent a lot of time walking around Moreton and enjoying the beauty of this part of the Cotswolds, I’ve become distinctly aware of some of the challenges it now faces as we come out of this latest (last?) lockdown, and rather than just point them out or moan, I felt I could help do something about it.

Create a URL link for guests to add your event to Google Calendar

With the huge increase in webinar’s that this pandemic has brought, I thought I’d share this handy tip to make it easy for your audience to easily add a google calendar appointment to their calendar from any web page. You can then easily place the link on your intranet or internet page to help encourage your audience to attend your online or offline events.

Just generate and add the web link – it uses a URL query string to pass on the event information to your guest’s Google Calendar when clicked. The benefit of using a URL link to add events to Google Calendar is that you don’t have to send out invites to everyone that wants to attend.

Move your WordPress page cache in-memory for faster performance

Using a RAM disk or ‘in-memory cache’ enables you to benefit from the significantly faster speeds of reading data from memory instead of disk. It also removes disk I/O pressure as well as reducing the CPU utilisation of processing your php scripts. It’s fairly easy to configure too. I successfully moved the cache folder for the Hummingbird WordPress plugin, but you can do it for any other plugin or cache folder, such as wp-cache folder or W3 Total Cache plugin etc. The following commands were used on a debian server so the process should be similar for Ubuntu but may vary for other Linux distros.
